DIY iPod Car mount |

#5 What's next?Well at this point look around at what you have and what you want. I've noticed a lot of iPod cases have something on the back of them. Either a belt clip or even a slot to hang it from something. A belt clip I think would fit just fine on this mount. Even a belt loop on an ipod case could slide right into this mount from the side (it's about the size of a large belt this mount!) I want a holder designed for my ipod. So I ran down to compUSA and found a nYko universal car mount for $10. ![]() I think I recommend it (too soon to tell still) but this cradle pretty much clamps down onto your ipod restricting it from falling out, and is protected by soft padding everywhere it touches the iPod. It has a hole on the bottom to connect the docking port to your ipod while it sits in the cradle, and space on top to connect headphones. It does not however have very much space to allow nearly any iPod Jacket. My slim rubber iPod jacket just BARELY squeezed into this holder. The holder has 2 methods of mounting, on the AC vent, or with a supersticky adhesive. The supersticky adhesive fit very well on my baseplate and seems to not want to come off. I'm haapy with the cradle and here are the final results. ![]() ![]() Pro's: Cheap!! Satisfaction of making a custom car mount. 20 minutes to do. Con's: The baseplate I bought is fairly flexible. It can get bent from a hard push or knock into it. Also sharp corners can cut the passengers. Doing it yourself and messing it up can frustrate you. UPDATE: I've had this installed for 2 years now and it's still working great! Feel free to drop me a line at:
