DIY iPod Car mount |

#3 Bending the baseplateI used my neighbors vice and a rubber mallet to bend the baseplate the way I wanted it. I must say I was very unscientific at this point and just eyeballed it (knowing I had 2). Amazingly enough the holes of the baseplate I bought align perfectly being flush with the top of the glovebox line and then a hole aligns with the factory screw. After some careful consideration I bent the baseplate in two places making it look like this. ![]() ![]() ![]() With the screw taken out (careful not to lose it in there) and by holding the bracket in place, it now looks like this. Pretty good fit! ![]() Note: About knowing where to bend the plate. There are 2 bends, first is the 'base' bend where it will be screwed into the car. This bend can't be too long because it will block the casing from fitting back in. Also if the bend is too close to/far away from the screw hole the casing won't fit back just right either. The 2nd bend is to hold the iPod. You need to be aware of the cupholder. Letting the mount come out about an inch allows for you to still use the cupholder without problems. Also the 2nd bend is on a slight angle to tilt the iPod up at me, the driver, for ease of use/visibility. Note: Your bracket may not be the exact same size as mine. I think if you got this far you are fairly handy and can come up with some method of making it work. Either make a new hole in your baseplate, or make a new hole in your car and screw it down into there! |
